Sara Saljoughi is a PhD candidate in the department of
Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Minnesota. She
is currently writing a dissertation titled “Burning Visions: The Iranian New
Wave and the Politics of the Image, 1962-1979,” which focuses on intermediality
and antagonism in pre-revolutionary Iranian experimental and art cinema. For
2013-2014, she is a Mellon/ACLS dissertation fellow. Her research has been
supported by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada
(SSHRC), an International Dissertation Research Fellowship from the Social
Science Research Council (SSRC), the Harold Leonard Memorial Fellowship in Film
Study, and the Unique Zan Foundation/Iranian-American Scholarship Fund. Her work
appears in Iranian Studies, Jadaliyya, Film Criticism,
Inter/Tidal, and The Oxford Encyclopedia of Islam and Women.
