Rhoma Spencer

Rhoma Spencer is an award winning actor and director, play creator, comedienne and broadcast journalist from Trinidad and Tobago (TNT). Founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Archipelago, her works has been critically acclaimed in the Globe and Mail, Now Magazine and the Toronto Star.

 

At the close of 2005, Ms Spencer was voted one of the top ten theatre artists in the city by NOW magazine and the leading actress in the city by stageandpage.com.   She has directed  And the girls in their Sunday Dress  for African Theatre Ensemble (ATE), Anowa (ATE)  Just Jazz  for Theatre Archipelago(TA), Twilight Café (TA), Our lady of Spills and I Marcus Garvey (TA). Acting credits include two seasons of Da Kink in my Hair for Global TV, Mad Miss and Fallen Angel and the Devil Concubine(TA), Stori Ya(b current).

 

She was the producer of the widely acclaimed Obeah Opera and is preparing to direct   a new musical play, ‘A Desperate Road to Freedom’ with music composed by Canadian composer David Sereda and book by Joan Chandler in February 2014. When not directing or acting, Rhoma is an accomplished comedienne and MC having performed her throughout the Caribbean, US and Canada in the Caribbean comedy circuit.
